Jul 20, 2012 · My 1997 Jeep Wrangler with a Mercedes 5cyl OM617 turbo diesel engine out of a 1982 300sd mated up with a 5 speed nv3550 transmission using the mercedesdiesel4x4.com flywheel adapter. I still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there! I welded in my own custom engine mounts. The jeep has a 2" suspension lift on 33's.

The OM617 into a Ranger has been on my list of ideas to do for a long time. I've had a lot of vehicles, but my favorites have been my '88 Ranger with a 2.9L V6 and my '84 Mercedes 300SD 3.0L 5-cylinder turbo diesel. My Mercedes is my daily driver, and the engine has 337K miles on it and the engine hasn't been rebuilt. I get 29 MPG, too.

The factory bell-housing will accept the OM617 and all the clutch stuff will swap right over. The issue is cab clearance which is why the aftermarket bell house is made.
